"Listen to this! Behold, the sower went out to sow; as he was
sowing, some seed fell beside the road, and the birds came and ate it
up. Other seed fell on the rocky ground where it did not have much soil;
and immediately it sprang up because it had no depth of soil. And after
the sun had risen, it was scorched; and because it had no root, it withered
away. Other seed fell among the thorns, and the thorns came up and choked
it, and it yielded no crop. Other seeds fell into the good soil, and
as they grew up and increased, they yielded a crop and produced thirty,
sixty, and a hundredfold." (Mk 4:3-8)
"The parable of the sower going out to sow is the source of inspiration
for evangelization. The seed is the word of God. The sower
is Jesus Christ. Two thousand years ago he proclaimed the Gospel in
Palestine and sent the disciples to sow the Gospel in the world.
Today, Jesus Christ, present in the Church through his Spirit, continues
to scatter the word of the Father ever more widely in the field of the
world." (General Directory for Catechesis No. 15)
In a small way, the Adult Education of St. John's will attempt to continue
to sow the seed. Periodically we will answer some of the questions
that were generated through our Question and Answer Evenings with a
fuller explanation by providing that which was written by Church Fathers
or other reliable sources.
